What is the Community Services Training Package (CSTP)?

The CSTP is all the competencies required of staff employed at all levels in the community services sector. In the disability sector, Certificate III is the minimal qualification. The Advanced Diploma reflects the requirements of managers.

Who were the participants?

Colac Adult and Community Education (ACE) was the Recognised Training Organisation (RTO) who conducted the training.

There were 79 participants from:

• Kyeema in Portland
• Warrnambool District Accommodation Service, and
• Colanda.

The participants studies ranged from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma.

What did they pay?

Each participant paid $400 and an additional $160 for Level 2 First Aid.

Recognition of Current Competency (RCC)

Colac ACE supported participants to:

• Self-assess against competencies
• Gather evidence of their skills
• Submit evidence to the trainer for assessment.

Current skills were recognised and accredited.

Learning gaps were identified and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) were developed to fill them.

Together, the trainer and participant agree on the form of flexible learning to address training needs:

• Action learning
• Mentoring
• Shadowing
• Coaching
• Higher duties
• Workplace Exchange
• Multi-media

Mode of Delivery

An experienced trainer provides individual and/or group sessions. The group meets between trainer visits.

Strengths of the Colac ACE model of flexible CSTP delivery

• Development of an Individual Learning Plan which enables participants to choose the mode of learning suited to them
• Empowerment of participants to learn with and from each other in action learning groups
• The ability of participants to choose the most convenient venue for their learning and development.
